Stop Overthinking It: Seek to Please God, Not People

How many times have you replayed a conversation in your head, wondering if you said the “right” thing? Or stressed over whether you handled a situation perfectly—trying to be considerate, kind, and totally inoffensive? Maybe you’ve even caught yourself spiraling into anxiety, wondering, Did I mess that up? Did I disappoint someone?

Let me lovingly tell you this: stop overthinking it.

Seriously. It’s exhausting trying to be everything for everyone. I know your heart is in the right place—you want to do good, be kind, make others feel seen and loved. But here’s the truth that will set you free: you can’t please everyone. And more importantly, you’re not called to.

People-Pleasing Is a Trap

When we live for the approval of others, we start shrinking ourselves to fit into their expectations. We second-guess our instincts, silence our truth, and overanalyze every move. We end up drained, insecure, and disconnected from who we really are.

The Bible reminds us of this clearly in Galatians 1:10 (NIV):
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

That hits, doesn’t it?

Trying to please people above all else will only lead to burnout. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and you certainly can’t pour if you’re constantly questioning your worth or your words.

Please God, Rest in Peace

What if instead of asking, “Did I do it right?” you asked, “Did I do it with love, integrity, and a heart to honor God?”

That question brings peace. It shifts the focus away from perfectionism and into purpose. You don’t need to have all the answers or say everything perfectly. God sees your heart. He knows your intent. When you’re aligned with Him, you can move in confidence—even if someone else doesn’t understand it.

Remember: peace comes from pleasing God, not people. And when your tank is full of His truth, His love, and His approval, you’ll naturally show up with grace for others—without losing yourself in the process.

Give Yourself Permission to Let Go

So today, give yourself permission to:

  • Let go of the replay reel in your head.
  • Stop over-apologizing for simply being yourself.
  • Trust that God is guiding your steps.
  • Focus on faithfulness, not flawless performance.

You’re doing better than you think. Stay close to God, stay rooted in truth, and let the rest fall where it may.

You weren’t created to be perfect.
You were created to be obedientauthentic, and free.
